Ep 12. Return to the Homeland, Part 1

Asa prepares for a trip to Iran to explore her roots, she faces criticism from MJ and GG for not being more forthcoming about her plans. The two friends worry about Asa's safety in a country that has been largely off-limits to Americans since the 1979 revolution. While Asa is excited to see her family and learn more about her heritage, she also feels anxious about returning to a place that is so different from her home in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Reza and Adam are dealing with some drama of their own as they prepare to start a family through surrogacy. Reza is nervous about the process and worried about telling his traditional Persian parents that he and Adam are going to be fathers. He confides in MJ, who offers her support but also warns him that their parents may not be as open-minded as they are.

As the group gathers for a final Persian-themed party before Asa leaves for Iran, tensions are high. GG is still skeptical about Asa's plans and accuses her of being vague about her itinerary. Asa takes offense and storms out of the party, leaving the others to wonder if she can handle the pressure of the trip.

In the midst of all the drama, a surprise guest arrives: Shervin's brother, who is visiting from Iran. Shervin is thrilled to see him, but it quickly becomes clear that his brother is struggling to adjust to life in LA. He feels isolated and homesick, and is having trouble reconciling his Iranian heritage with his new American identity.

As the episode comes to a close, the group is left with a lot to think about. Asa is on her way to Iran, Reza and Adam are gearing up to start their surrogacy journey, and Shervin's brother is stuck in the middle of two very different cultures. It remains to be seen how these storylines will play out, but one thing is certain: the Shahs of Sunset are never short on drama.
