With the Shahs of Sunset season 8, fans are once again rigorously following the lives of the well-heeled Persians. In episode 2 of the eighth season, titled "A Very Shouhed Passover", the audience is provided with an insight into the intricacies of a Persian Passover arrangement.
As the episode kicks off, the show's star, Reza is getting all worked up for Passover, which is beginning soon. Reza wants to host this year's Passover Seder at his new bachelor pad, and is quite excited to include everyone, meaning his old friends and ex-besties, Mike and MJ.
At this point, the show takes a turn to follow MJ struggling with becoming a new mother. Self-proclaimed "halal Jersey girl," MJ struggles with deranged thoughts and an inadequate connection with her spouse, which are ravaging her emotional state. She fears that she may be drifting apart from her husband, Tommy, as she tries to balance her motherly duties with her work on Shahs fashion line.
As things get more personal, we see the episode inclining towards Nema. Nema, who has been portrayed in previous seasons as a playboy who can't keep his hands off any Persian girl, starts to showcase his vulnerable side in this episode. He confides in Mona, his friend, about his troubles with the Shahs on how they call him "Ted Bundy" and refuse to acknowledge him as one of their own.
In another part, Reza’s old friends and current nemesis, Mike, is obviously feeling left out and unwanted. He spares no efforts in trying to get an invitation to Reza's Passover Seder, after feeling that he may no longer be his friend.
Amidst all of this, Destiney is seen trying to balance her person-of-color identity with her actual ethnicity. The scene moves over to Adam and Reza, who encounter trouble in the midst of Passover preparations. There's static between the couple, owing to the latter's emotional turbulence.
The production value of “A Very Shouhed Passover” episode is excellent, and it is evident the cast was dedicated in taking part in the episode and making it a success. The season highlights the traditions of the Persian Passover with a progressive twist, while maintaining the show’s signature glamour and drama.
