Shear Genius is the American reality television show that will have contestants compete in order to create the hairstyle that is rated the best. The contestants will be limited on the amount of time they have along with what materials can be used and what theme they are to follow. The designs that they come up with will be judged by a number of stylists who will then eliminate someone each week until they have selected a winner.

The show Shear Genius is hosted by Jaclyn Smith, an actress who will host season one and two but will not go on to host seasons 3 and above. Season 3 was hosted by a Brazilian model, Camila Alves.

The very first time that Shear Genius aired, it aired in April of 2007. Shear Genius will become a fan favorite amongst people who like a competitive design show. The second season of Shear Genius would start in June of 2008.

In the 3rd season of the show, Camila Alves will join the judges, Kim Vo and Jonathan Antin to judge the contestants while in the seasons of 1 and 2, judges Sally Hershberger and Michael Carl along with Kelly Atterton will join Jaclyn Smith to choose a winner. A number of other judges will make appearances but will not be a permanent judge like Rene Fris and Orlando Pita. Typically you will watch as a guest judge appears in each episode also.

Every season of the show is going to start off with 12 people vowing for the number one spot. There will be a series of tests that will cause a person to become eliminated each episode. There will be a number of episodes that actually will eliminate more than one person. All the contestants will be eliminated by the judges based on previous experience in winning or losing while considering what their current contest was. There will be two challenges that each contestant is faced with during each one of the episodes.

Shear Genius is a series that is currently running and has 3 seasons (29 episodes). The series first aired on April 11, 2007.

Shear Genius Full Episode Guide

  • Who will prove to be Shear Genius? The third season comes to a close and one contestant will be named Shear Genius.

  • The contestants have to style their first celebrity client and then create a signature look.

  • The competitors must choose a tool, inspiration, and a style for each other. They must update a classic Hollywood look and update it.

  • The stylists give new looks to recent high school graduates. They also create 60s and 70s inspired red carpet looks for VIP guests for Estelle's album release party.

  • The 7 remaining contestants have to interpret geometric shapes on Asian hair.

  • The stylists must transform military wives into pinup girls to surprise their husbands who are overseas.

  • The stylists must do bridesmaids' hair.

  • The stylists must give a man a sexier look with extensions.

  • For the Elimination Challenge, the stylists have to create avant-garde hairstyles based on a tasting menu from Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel.

  • Stylists must give punk rockers a more polished look; sophisticated styles for a fashion show.

  • In the Season 2 finale, the final trio must cut, color and style the hair of various models ranging from ages 16 to 60. In addition, magazine editor Linda Wells appraises the contestants' portfolios and overall season performances, and celebrity stylist Sally Hershberger is on hand as the guest judge.

  • The remaining four stylists get a big surprise during the short cut challenge when they find out their client isn't who they think it is - it's their identical twin! Only three stylists are left after the elimination challenge, where they create avant garde hair that will be paired with outrageous designer clothes during a photo shoot with a big name celebrity photographer. Allure Editor-in-Chief Linda Wells and world-renowned stylist Jose Eber (clients include Cher, Farrah Fawcett and Elizabeth Taylor) serve as guest judges.

  • The remaining stylists conquer their toughest clients yet - five year-olds! Putting together an easy to manage back to school style for the kids and balancing the antics of a room full of children proves to be a lot to handle. During the elimination challenge, the stylists get a surprise visit from their loved ones - who are in desperate need of a hair makeover! Hollywood hair guy Dean Banowetz (clients include Ryan Seacrest and Leeza Gibbons) and celebrity stylist David Babaii (clients include Angelina Jolie and Kate Hudson) join as guest judges.

  • The contestants are challenged to create a haircut for both the owners and their dog. Also, the gang must use only items found in a kitchen cabinet to style hair.

  • Host Jaclyn Smith's Charlies Angels co-star Kate Jackson makes an appearance as a guest judge as the contestants are challenged to reinvent hairstyles from the 70's series. but first, the stylists must must work with hair color.

  • The stylists are challenged to work on surfer dude's hair. Then they tackle the problem of premature balding in women, with the utilization of customized wigs.

  • The barbers are challenged in a game of musical chairs as they rotate from client to client. Later, they must create a hair style in which the clients can recreate at home.

  • The contestants are challenged to create a new style for extremely long hair, without cutting a strand. The elimination heat has them creating a glamorous hairdo for a red-carpet affair.

  • The contestants are challenged to create a hair style for very short hair. Next, they must work on the hairdo's of domestic divas from "The Housewives of Orange County."

  • The 12 hair stylists are challenged to perform a haircut while blindfolded. Also, they must shape clients hair in the shape of famous cartoon characters.
