Stacey David's GearZ season 9 episode 8 titled "The Beaten and Downtrodden" centers around Stacey David taking on some challenging projects. In this episode, he salvages a beat up 1953 Chevy pickup truck and restores it to its former glory. The pickup, which was found on a farm, was in a terrible state, and the challenge of making it road-worthy again seemed daunting.
Stacey begins by stripping the vehicle down to its frame and assessing the extent of the damage. The rusted frame was beyond repair, so Stacey had to source a new one. The body of the truck also required significant amounts of work, where the floor pans, cab corners, and all rusted metal pieces were replaced to maintain the structural integrity of the truck.
In this special episode, Stacey works extremely hard to fix the small details that most people ignore. For instance, he takes his time to carefully align, measure and gap all the panels, including blocking the body to ensure no air pockets are left. The door alignment was also perfect, making the truck look much better. In addition, he added new brake lines and a custom stainless-steel gas tank.
Given the truck's many years of neglect, its engine was dead, and Stacey had to install a new one. A Chevy LS3 crate engine, which produces more than 450 horsepower, was installed. To ensure the engine fit in the engine bay without any issues, Stacey had to fabricate custom engine mounts, which he did from scratch.
Stacey did not only focus on the mechanical aspects of the pickup, but he also tackled the aesthetics, which is something he's known for. To give the truck a personal touch, Stacey added an updated grille, new bumpers and all the chrome he added was eye-catching. The paintjob was glossy black, which paired well with the interiors which featured an amazing tan leather finish.
The final product was a beautiful, classic Chevrolet truck that looked brand new. The truck's personality was entirely reinvigorated, and the owner couldn't have been happier with the end result. Stacey had not only brought the truck back to life but also gave it a new lease of life.
The takeaway from this episode of GearZ is that with enough patience and determination, a restoration project that initially seems impossible can turn into a masterpiece. Stacey David's GearZ continues to inspire and entertain car enthusiasts and gearheads worldwide. This episode showed Stacey's passion for the craft and how he's able to make something beautiful from something that's beaten and neglected.
