The Paradise Syndrome is the third episode of the third season of Star Trek. The episode opens with a shot of the Starship Enterprise in orbit around an Earth-like planet. Captain Kirk orders an away team to investigate the signal.
The away team consists of Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and Dr. McCoy. The team beams down to the planet, where they discover an American Indian tribe living in a small village. The crew is surprised to find such a primitive society on a planet with such advanced technology.
Captain Kirk is soon separated from his team and wanders into a nearby canyon. While exploring the canyon, he is struck by a beam of light and falls unconscious. When he wakes up, he finds himself living with the Indian tribe and married to a woman named Miramanee.
The rest of the episode follows Captain Kirk as he adjusts to his new life with the tribe and tries to remember his past. He also becomes aware of a deadly asteroid that is on a collision course with the planet. With the help of the Indian tribe, Kirk tries to prevent the asteroid from destroying their home.
Meanwhile, Spock and McCoy are trying to figure out what happened to Kirk. They discover that the beam of light that struck Kirk was a powerful weapon left behind by an ancient civilization. The weapon has erased all memories of Captain Kirk's past and left him with a new persona.
The crew of the Enterprise works to find a way to bring Captain Kirk back to his old self before the asteroid hits the planet.
