Ep 1. The Power Pirate

Super Friends premiered in 1973 and was a beloved animated series throughout the 70s and 80s. The first episode of season one, "The Power Pirate," introduces us to a world in which all the superheroes we know and love - Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Robin - have come together to form the Super Friends, a team dedicated to protecting the world from evil.

The episode opens with a scene of an oil tanker in the middle of the ocean, being battered by a severe storm. As the crew struggles to keep the ship afloat, a strange glowing object appears in the sky, causing the ship's navigation system to malfunction and the crew to fall unconscious. When they wake up, they find that all the oil on board has been drained inexplicably, as if sucked up into the sky.

Meanwhile at the Hall of Justice, the Super Friends are giving a tour to a group of children. Suddenly, they receive a distress signal from the Coast Guard about the missing oil tanker. The Super Friends quickly depart in the Wonder Twins' aircraft to investigate the incident.

Upon arriving at the scene of the missing oil tanker, the Super Friends notice that the tanker is missing entirely, leaving no trace of debris or wreckage. They soon discover another tanker in the area that is in distress. The team decides to investigate further and with the help of Aquaman, they find an underwater cavern with a strange boat docked to it. The boat turns out to be a spaceship and they are shocked to find a man inside, wearing a strange helmet and surrounded by electronic machinery.

The man is named Edgar Mandragora and he claims to have developed a device capable of drawing energy from any source. He demonstrates his device to the Super Friends, showing off his ability to suck up all the energy from a nearby generator. His next target is a nuclear plant, which he manages to drain successfully.

The Super Friends realize that they must stop Mandragora and his power-draining device before he can cause any more damage. However, Mandragora proves to be a formidable opponent, using his device to create a force field around himself, making him impervious to the Super Friends' attacks.

Robin comes up with a plan to use Mandragora's own technique against him. Using an empty oil tanker, the Super Friends create a fake energy source to lure Mandragora into a trap. The plan works and Mandragora is successfully captured, with his power-draining device destroyed.

In the end, the Super Friends reflect on the fact that even though they were successful this time, they can never let their guard down against evil. They vow to always be ready and willing to fight for the safety of the world.

"The Power Pirate" is a thrilling introduction to the Super Friends world, featuring high stakes action and an iconic team of superheroes in their early years. With its positive messaging, exciting storylines, and lovable characters, it's no surprise that this series continues to be a fan favorite to this day.
