In season 1 episode 8 of Take Home Chef, Curtis Stone surprises Wendy, a nurse, at her local grocery store. Wendy dreams of impressing her friends with a gourmet meal, but is intimidated by the complexity of cooking. Curtis offers to help Wendy in her culinary endeavors.
After meeting Wendy, Curtis heads to the store to choose the ingredients for the meal, hoping to incorporate Wendy's favorite ingredients such as salmon and avocado. He then gives Wendy a brief cooking lesson, teaching her how to butterfly a salmon and how to properly chop avocado.
The pair then heads to Wendy's home where they begin the cooking process. Curtis helps Wendy make a flavorful marinade for the salmon that includes ginger, garlic, and soy sauce. Wendy is surprised by how easy and simple the recipe is to follow and is filled with excitement to continue cooking.
While the salmon marinates, the pair moves on to creating a fresh avocado salsa that will complement the main dish. Wendy learns different knife skills from Curtis, which she finds incredibly useful.
As they cook, Wendy opens up to Curtis about her life and career as a nurse, revealing how her job can be exhausting. Curtis listens intently and encourages Wendy to take time for herself and try new things, like cooking.
After finishing cooking, Wendy's friends arrive and are stunned by the beautiful spread that Wendy and Curtis have created. They taste the food and rave about the flavors, and Wendy beams with pride.
In the end, Wendy is grateful to Curtis for showing her that cooking can be fun and easy. She feels confident enough to continue experimenting in the kitchen and even plans to treat her colleagues at the hospital to a home-cooked meal. Curtis bids farewell to Wendy, happy to have helped ignite her passion for cooking.
