Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka is an anime television series directed by Keitaro Motonaga. The show is a production of TNK, a Japanese animation studio, and it is licensed by Sentai Filmworks. Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka was released by the studio in June of 2009. The show revolves around Jun'ichi Nagase, a high school student at a prestigious school. Jun'ichi also goes by the nickname Geno Killer as a result of his rebellious middle school years. Yuuhi Katagiri, another prominent character in the show, to whom Jun'ichi is linked, is initially portrayed as a damsel in distress who Jun'ichi Nagase saves from impending trouble. Later in the series, Yuuhi Katagiri transfers to the same prestigious school where, in order to protect her, Jun'ichi is forced to kiss her. Yuuhi Katagiri does not understand what transpired and is angry at what she perceives to be Jun'ichi Nagase's advances. As the show develops, it is revealed that Yuuhi Katagiri is betrothed to Jun'ichi as a result of an arrangement by their parents. At the command of their parents, they must resolve their issues by engaging in a month long relationship which their parents hope will restore their union. Throughout this courtship, there is the constant threat that the entire plan will be cancelled if their relationship does not improve.

During the course of their courtship, Yuuhi undergoes a transformation from a damsel in distress to a much more physically violent person. As the show develops, revelations are made regarding Jun'ichi's affections towards his sister. Through the series, he struggles with these feelings along with associated fantasies.

The character of Jun'ichi Nagase is voiced by the award winning actor, Wataru Hatano. Another prominent character in the series is Minato Nagase, Jun'ichi Nagase's younger sister. Minato is a first year student at the same school as her brother. She possesses unique capabilities such as the ability to detect the presence of animals by listening to the ground.

Hatsukoi Parachute, the opening theme of the series is performed by Miyuki Hashimoto, a Japanese female musician who is known for contributing her music to video games and anime.
