The television series, All American Handyman is hosted by Mike Holmes and Scott McGillivray. The show will combine a number of handymen and women who will complete a number of challenges. This is a redone spinoff of the Handyman Superstar Challenge.

The series will take a number of handymen and handywomen who will face challenges that are based on the home repairs and home improvements. There will also be basic woodworking involved. The winner who makes it to the end of the season will be the winner and will be crowned All American Handyman. The contestant will also be offered a deal with the network HGTV. Once one challenge has been completed, a few of the contestants will be eliminated. There will be two challenges for each episode.

At the beginning of the series, 20 contestants will be given a task to complete, once the task is finished, there will only be 10 contestants who will make it to the next stage. Once the next stage is complete, there will be two more people eliminated. The remaining contestants will move onto the next challenge. Once the second portion of the challenge is complete, there will be two more people removed from the show.

The first season offers 4 episodes while the following seasons offer six episodes. The series started in 2010 and has continued on into 2012. The series will offer episodes in which contestants will compete in challenges ranging from bathrooms to dog houses to playgrounds. For areas outside of the home, gardens are addressed as well as BBQ's. The series will start out with Episode one titled Hello Contestants, Goodbye Contestants. The season finale of season 3 was Kitchen Crowns the Winner. All shows in between will range from the kitchen to designs on paper, closed doors and finally back to the kitchen.

The host, Mike Holmes is known for his superb handyman and contractor skills. He maintains his own television shows where he will enter into other people's homes where repairs need to be done where homes have been neglected by previous contractors. For his capabilities, it makes him the choice for HGTV to host the show, All American Handyman.
