The task force and SPK meet at the warehouse as planned, and Mikami makes a guest appearance to kill everyone at once for Light.

Light and Near make arrangements for their meeting and Kiyomi is kidnapped, leading to insidious results.

Thanks to Aizawa, the task force has indisputable proof that Light is passing messages to Kiyomi without their awareness. Near finds proof that Mikami is Kira-X, and decides to put his final plan into motion in 24 days.

The story is falling into place for Near, and both he and Light are making final preparations for a climatic show down. Will Light's secret life finally be revealed?

Mikami reveals past is shown as a young man with a strong sense of justice since he was a boy. He finds a new spokesperson for Kira, Light's old college girlfriend. Light takes the initiative and acts as her boyfriend to get closer to her.

Light's attack on Near backfires and more attention is drawn to him. With the threat of the task force defecting to Near, he has no option but to have Misa relinquish her Death Note and deliver it to a new Second Kira.

Near is told that one of the rules on the notebook is a fake by Mello. Near begins suspecting Light as Kira and is attempting to divide the taskforce. Light makes a plan to kill Near.

Soichiro feels guilt over giving the notebook to Mello, so he agrees to put his life on the line to execute a plan to capture Mello.

Near and Light work together to save Sayu while Mello makes off with the Death Note. He then proceeds to use the notebook to kill off the majority of the SPK, cornering Near.

Five years have passed and two new people stand up to Kira. Near, takes position within the SPK, and Mello decides to kidnap Sayu.

Light succeeds Ryuuzaki as the new L. Light creates his new world splitting the world into those who support him and those who oppose him.

L still cannot believe the 13 day rule Light made up and he hounds Rem over if its real or not. Light, sensing the danger, if the rule is discovered, makes Rem decided whether or not she will sacrifice her life and kill L so that Misa may live.

Light touches the Death Note and gains his memories back. Light and Misa start planning L's death, and he is oblivious to the fact they are the Kira's because of some fake rules Light had put on the notebook. It seems L is now a sitting duck.

The trap goes as planned and Higuchi is scrambling around, until being cornered. It seems that L will finally be triumphant...or will he?

Now that the taskforce knows the identity of Kira, they set up an elaborate plan to capture him. However, the plan is risky because Matsuda must put his life on the line. Will Higuchi fall for the trap, or will he elude capture?

The taskforce decides to use Misa to get closer to the Yotsuba Corporation for further investigation. Rem contacts Misa telling her to be wary and listen to Light. In the end, Misa reveals Higuchi as Kira to the taskforce.

L listens in on the Yotsuba Corporation meetings after bugging their meeting room. Now the task force is divided between stopping them all now or waiting to see which among them is Kira.

Though Mikami has written all the investigators' names in the Death Note, a minute passes and everyone is still alive.

Near, along with the SPK, meets Light and the task force at a warehouse for the final showdown.

Light gives Kiyomi the order to finish off Near.

Aizawa figures out what's going on and tells Near, who already knows about the notes.

Light pretends to investigate Kiyomi.

Star newscaster Kiyomi Takada becomes Kira's spokesperson to the world.

Near contacts the Japanese task force and determines that Kira is among their members.

Mello busts into SPK headquarters to retrieve a photograph of himself to make sure he won't be killed by Kira.

Light tries to discover where Mello and his Mafia associates are hiding and uses Misa's eyes to find the Death Note's current owner.

Light, acting as L, reveals to Near that his sister Sayu has been kidnapped by someone wanting to trade her for the Death Note.

A new investigator steps forward--Near, a central figure in the SPK, an organization that is trying to catch Kira without relying on L.

Light, his memory recovered, orders Misa to begin killing after Higuchi dies.

Higuchi is captured and tells the investigators about the Death Note.

Higuchi of the Yotsuba Group attempts to kill Matsuda of the task force, and is surprised when he doesn't die after 40 seconds.

Misa succeeds in narrowing down the Kira suspects in the Yotsuba Group to one: Higuchi.

The Yotsuba Group hires Eraldo Coil to uncover L's identity.

L's team discovers that the Yotsuba Group meet in secret to discuss the elimination of individuals who are troublesome to their company.

Matsuda, eager to help the investigation more by feeling sub par to his comrades, seeks to infiltrate the Yotsuba Corporation on his own. However, he makes another mess to clean up after being captured.

Aizawa quits the Kira case to pursue his career as his job is on the line. Matsuda wishes he could be as useful as the other ex-police are to L. L and Light get in a fight. And L hires two criminals, to help pursue Kira further.

Before dismissing Light and Misa, L decides to put on an act that they are going to die to see if they will save themselves. After they pass, they are told Misa will be under 24 hour surveillance and that Light will be chained to L until the case is resolved.

Light makes a plan to give up his death note and goes into L's captivity saying he may "subconsciously" be Kira. After a week, he gives up ownership, and 2 weeks later another series of criminals die. What will happen to Light and Misa?

Feeling the pressure from the connection of the two Kiras, L makes his move on the second Kira, Misa. She is brought in for questioning. After she can no longer stand the pain, she begs for death, and instead gives up her ownership of the Death Note...erasing her memory of everything involving the Death Note.

Light is becoming bothered by Misa's persistence with seeing him. He has her send one last tape saying they will not be meeting, but L sees through it. Light then forces Rem's hand, to have him kill L for him.

The second Kira sends another message hidden in code to meet with Kira. Light goes and sees nothing, but the second Kira spots him out with the Shinigami Eyes.

She goes to Light's house and throws herself down to Light wishing to be his girlfriend and willing to do anything for him because of the divine retribution he created by killing the person who murdered her parents.

Light joins the investigation and confirms the fake Kira theory with the exact same reasoning that L used. They send out a fake message to the second Kira to bait her to them, and she bites. Now Light must get to her without L knowing.

Sakura TV receives video tapes from Kira and it is requesting the police to join him or else...meanwhile Light sits back and admires the handy work of someone else who obviously has a death note as well, and also very likely to possess the shinigami eyes. L realizes that this is a second Kira as well. Light decides to help the police, to keep tabs on L as well as on this new Kira.

L begins to profile Light through a game of tennis, and some questioning regarding the Kira case in hopes of figuring out the truth about him. L's suspicions raise as their day goes, that is, until Light's father suffers a heart attack.

L decides that even though neither family has shown suspicious activity, it doesn't automatically make them innocent. He decides to get closer to Light and takes the college entrance exam with him, both getting 100 percent. There L reveals himself to Light as L.

Light realizes his room is tapped and formulates a plan to act in suspicious as more criminals die. However L isn't full convinced and decides that his family is suspiciously innocent.

Light continues his conversation with Penbar's fiance. However, she is using an alias. Can Light gain her trust and her name before it is too late?

In an attempt to rally support from the police, L invites the remaining investigators to visit him in his hotel room. They then formulate a plan for catching Kira. Meanwhile, Light meets Penbar's fiance and realizes that she must be eliminated.

Light eliminates the threat of Ray Penbar and his colleagues, and things get hairy for L as the police figure out that he had been using the FBI to collect information from the police. Ray's fiance takes it upon herself to discover Kira's identity.

Light attempts to find out how much he can manipulate a person's death prior to the actual death, and to what degree the DEATH NOTE can kill a person in order to formulate a plan to rid himself of the FBI agent.

L has a FBI agent tail Light, because he now suspects the NPA or, at least, someone close to a NPA member. Light becomes aware of the new intruder. Do to Light's worry of how to rid himself of the agent, Ryuk informs Light that he can gain the power of Shinigami eyes, the ability to see people's names over their head, by trading half his remaining lifespan.

Because Light has killed all his victims in the same matter, his actions have gained global attention. A secret agent known only as "L", sets a trap for him, and Light bites at the bait after killing the fake L. L then challenges Light and the battle between L and Kira begins.

High school student Yagami Light finds a mysterious notebook labeled "DEATH NOTE", which feel from the sky. After reading the instructions for the book, he believes it to only be a chain note, but his curiosity gets the best of him and he learns the secret powers the book contains.
