Watch Essential Pepin

With his warm and friendly manner accentuated by a distinct French accent Jacques Pepin is widely regarded as being one of the world's top chefs. On his television show Essential Pepin, the chef regularly shows viewers how to prepare and cook a broad spectrum of dishes. His relaxed manner makes it easy for viewers to follow along and create the dish at home.

When he is cooking in the kitchen on Essential Pepin, Jacques Pepin seldom wears a chef's coat and/or chef's hat. His usual attire in the kitchen consists of men's dress shirts with perhaps a turtleneck underneath along with his apron.

Pepin is a classically trained hands-on chef who easily moves from preparing an appetizer to cooking an entree to baking a cake. All in the same show. Each episode of Essential Pepin generally features three or four recipes which are all often coordinated to form one meal. In other episodes the chef may focus on a specific type of food item then create several variations of the item.

While many of the dishes that are shown on Essential Pepin are protein-based featuring beef, chicken, pork, veal and other meats, there are also plenty of seafood and vegetarian recipes featured on the show.

There are frequent appearances by guest chefs on Essential Pepin some of whom are also famous around the world. True to his nature Jacques Pepin is always gracious enough to let the guest chefs have free rein in producing their special dishes.

When Mr. Pepin uses a knife to slice and chop food items his dexterity and skill are amazing attributes to see being displayed. Seemingly without effort the chef slices even the smallest items into paper-thin or miniscule pieces.

Sample episodes of Essential Pepin may be devoted to the preparation and cooking of items such as shellfish, root vegetables, beef steaks or chocolate cakes. Other episodes might focus on showing different ways to prepare risotto, fried chicken, cobb salad or chocolate mousse.
