Doctor Hank Lawson is a successful emergency medicine physician in a busy New York hospital until he makes a decision that the hospital board doesn't approve of. In his efforts to save two patients at once, a rich hospital beneficiary dies, and Hank loses his job. As if this isn't bad enough, his gold-digging fiancee dumps him when she finds out, leaving him alone and jobless, drinking beer in his underwear as his furniture is repossessed.
After allowing him to mope for a little while, Hank's accountant brother Evan pulls him out of his apartment and takes him on a forced vacation to the Hamptons. While at a party there, Hank correctly diagnoses a girl who has collapsed and saves her from receiving the wrong treatment from another doctor. The party's host, the rich and mysterious Boris, offers Hank a place in his guest house and a job as a concierge doctor to the rich and famous.
Hank is reluctant at first, but with some push from his brother, a new friendship with Hamptons Heritage hospital administrator Jill Casey, and a very competent physician's assistant, he and Evan set up the concierge medicine outfit HankMed. Thanks to Evan's business savvy and Hank's bedside manner, they are quickly a booming success, treating the rich, famous, and sometimes eccentric patients of the Hamptons. Hank is still Hank, though, and he makes sure to help out those who cannot afford medical care in his spare time.
HankMed understandably goes through some growing pains at times, as Evan and Hank figure out that being brothers in business together takes some doing. Physician assistant Divya Katdare deals with personal issues while working for the duo, and Hank enters a rocky relationship with Jill. Only time will tell what their further adventures in the Hamptons will bring.
