Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta is filmed at Bridals by Lori in the suburb of Sandy Springs. The premise is much the same as the original New York City version, with brides coming in with their various problems and hopes for the perfect wedding dress. The show takes the point of view of the shop's salespeople and managers, with an outside perspective on the drama of dress shopping. This means viewers also get a peek into the drama of working in the wedding industry.

Though each bride is shown only for two episodes (when she first comes in, and again for the final fitting and wedding recap) the shop workers are constant characters. As the Say Yes to the Dress series evolves, viewers watch the setbacks and improvement of the workers, learning more about their individual personalities. The bridal image consultant at Bridals by Lori, Monte Durham, has become especially well liked from his appearances in the show. Viewers are taken into the back rooms of the dress shop, seeing the massive stock of dresses and hearing the salespersons' personal opinions and commentary while out of sight of the customer.

The most common barriers to finding the perfect dress are the mixed opinions of friends and family, an overbearing parent who is paying for the dress, and the bride's own body issues or impossible demands. The salesperson must find the perfect dress, but also work with the budget of whoever is paying for it. Often, parents and brides are reluctant to talk money matters in front of each other or the camera, leading to strife later on as the perfect dress comes in at too high of a price. Bridals by Lori's workers must keep the entire party happy, and also send out a satisfied customer. They often become referees to family disputes or counselors to an anxious bride.
