Gary Russell Jr., a southpaw fighter from Capitol Heights, Maryland, entered the ring with an impressive professional record of 26 wins, 1 loss, and 15 knockouts. He had previously held the WBC featherweight world title, which he lost to Vasyl Lomachenko in 2014, and was returning to the ring for the first time in over a year after suffering a hand injury.

Patrick Hyland, an orthodox fighter from Dublin, Ireland, also had an impressive record of 31 wins, 2 losses, and 15 knockouts. He was a former Irish featherweight champion who had previously challenged for a world title, losing to Javier Fortuna in 2012. Hyland was looking to become a world champion himself and bring the belt back to Ireland.

The fight began with both fighters feeling each other out in the first round. Russell Jr. was using his quick footwork and hand speed to keep Hyland at bay, while Hyland was trying to land his trademark right hand. In the second round, Russell Jr. started to find his range and landed a few solid punches, including a hard left hand to Hyland's head. Hyland kept coming forward, but Russell Jr. was too elusive and picked him apart with his speed and accuracy.

In the third round, Russell Jr. landed a vicious left uppercut that rocked Hyland and sent him stumbling backward. Hyland was able to stay on his feet, but he was clearly hurt and in trouble. Russell Jr. smelled blood and went for the knockout, but Hyland was able to survive the round and make it back to his corner.

Hyland tried to mount a comeback in the fourth round, but Russell Jr. was too fast and too skilled for him. Russell Jr. was landing punches at will and seemed to be in complete control of the fight. In the fifth round, Russell Jr. landed a hard body shot that doubled Hyland over in pain. Hyland tried to shake it off and keep fighting, but Russell Jr. was relentless and continued to punish him with his speed and power.

In the sixth round, Russell Jr. landed a left hook that sent Hyland crashing to the canvas. The referee immediately waved off the fight and Russell Jr. was declared the winner by TKO.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by Gary Russell Jr. He used his superior speed, accuracy, and ring generalship to completely outclass Patrick Hyland. Russell Jr. proved that he is one of the best fighters in the featherweight division and a force to be reckoned with in the sport of boxing.
