Watch V

There are few times when modern remakes of old television programs are successful and entertaining. V is a prime example of one of those projects that is a satisfying blend of last generation homage and present generation appeal. The new V takes the pseudo-gore and sci-fi wonder of the mid 1980s and spins it into a thrilling, fast-paced government-centric reflection of the most dire facets of modern times. Instead of focusing on the "alien-ness" of the visitors, this new series superimposes the aliens as intergalactic terrorists with ulterior motives. They are willing to wait in the shadows in order to fully realize their plans for dominion over planet Earth.

The 1980s miniseries was known for its strikingly horrific portrayal of alien cultures and their adverse integration with humanity. Anyone that remembers the first V will remember the hamster and tarantella dinners, the deadly bath and the lizard baby. Watchers of the new V will be pleasantly surprised at how creator Kenneth Johnson combines the old series shock value with modern philosophical questions of security, espionage, cultural warfare and psychological terrorism.

The cast of the new V includes emerging actors and actresses like Elizabeth Mitchell, Joel Gretsch, Morris Chestnut and Logan Huffman. These actors and actresses were carefully chosen to bridge the gap between everyday human individuals and attractive alien subversives trying to bring "peace" to the planet in exchange for a few "resources." This is the perfect crew to portray a not-so-futuristic, digitally-enhanced, scenario of in-your-neighborhood terror of universal proportion.
