Ep 3. Hotel Dick

In the second season of 3rd Rock from the Sun, the third planet from the Sun continues to be explored by the Solomons, a group of aliens trying to understand and adapt to human life. In episode 3 titled "Hotel Dick," the Solomons take on new jobs at a hotel in order to continue their research on human behavior.

The episode begins with the Solomons struggling to adjust to their new jobs at the hotel. Dick (John Lithgow), the leader of the group and a physics professor on their home planet, has taken on the role of bellhop in order to study human customs and behavior. Meanwhile, Sally (Kristen Johnston) is working as a maid, Harry (French Stewart) is working as a busboy, and Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is working as a dishwasher.

As they work, each member of the group encounters different challenges and frustrations. Dick struggles with carrying luggage and feeling undervalued in his position, while Sally is disgusted by the messiness of the hotel guests. Harry is disappointed to learn that the busboy position is not as glamorous as he initially thought, and Tommy is frustrated with the monotony of washing dishes.

Despite their struggles, the Solomons continue their research on human behavior. Dick becomes fascinated with the concept of tipping and spends his breaks practicing the art of tipping with the other hotel staff. Sally observes the habits of the hotel guests and becomes interested in their romantic relationships. Harry studies the interactions between the hotel staff and the guests, hoping to gain insight into human social dynamics. Tommy, on the other hand, becomes more and more disillusioned with his job as a dishwasher, feeling that it is beneath his intellectual abilities.

As the Solomons continue their research, they begin to experience more and more problems at the hotel. Sally accidentally spills cleaning solution on a guest's suit, Harry drops a tray of food on a table full of guests, and Tommy breaks a stack of dishes in frustration. Dick also causes a commotion when he accidentally gets trapped in an elevator with a group of guests, whom he attempts to impress with his knowledge of physics.

Despite the setbacks, the Solomons remain determined to continue their research. Dick decides to organize a bellhop Olympics to boost morale among the hotel staff, while Sally and Harry form a plan to help a lovestruck guest win back his girlfriend. Tommy, meanwhile, decides to quit his job and focus on finding a more intellectual pursuit.

Throughout the episode, the Solomons learn valuable lessons about human behavior and social dynamics, as well as the importance of perseverance and teamwork. As they continue their research on the third planet from the Sun, the Solomons begin to develop a deeper appreciation for human culture and customs, even as they struggle to adapt to them.
