Ep 4. Big Angry Virgin From Outer Space

3rd Rock from the Sun season 2 episode 4, entitled "Big Angry Virgin from Outer Space," centers around the Solomons' attempts to navigate Earth dating norms. Sally (Kristen Johnston) meets a man, Alan (Wayne Knight), whilst out at a bar and is immediately taken aback by his gentle demeanor as opposed to the rough, hyper-masculine approach she has come to expect from Earth men.

Upon introducing Alan to the other Solomons, Dick (John Lithgow) immediately becomes convinced that he must be an alien like them and sets out to prove his theory. Meanwhile, Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Harry (French Stewart) attempt to teach Sally how to be aggressive in order to better fit in on Earth.

As the episode progresses, Sally struggles to reconcile her attraction to Alan with her perceived need to embody Earth's gender expectations. She seeks out advice from the previously unhelpful Nina (Simbi Khali) and Mary (Jane Curtin), who offer drastically different approaches to how Sally should present herself. Ultimately, Sally comes to a realization about what she truly wants and confronts Alan at a restaurant.

The episode is a humorous exploration of gender norms, societal expectations, and the ways in which aliens must navigate them to successfully assimilate on Earth. It also touches on themes of personal agency and honesty in dating relationships.
