In "Get in the Game," the 17th episode of Beat Bobby Flay's 29th season, two chefs with a love for sports go head-to-head for the chance to take down celebrity chef Bobby Flay. The first contender is chef Michael Kramer, who was a professional hockey player before turning to the kitchen. He’s now the executive chef of the award-winning restaurant Jianna in South Carolina, where he serves up modern Italian cuisine. His opponent is chef Brian Lorusso, who comes from a family of athletes and is currently the executive chef at the Hotel Fauchere in Pennsylvania. He brings his love of family-style meals to the competition.
The judges for this episode are chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson and Food Network personality Katie Lee. The contestants must create two dishes that show off their love of sports and their culinary creativity. In the first round, they have just 20 minutes to make a dish using buffalo wings as the main ingredient. Both chefs put their own spin on this classic sports snack. Chef Kramer creates a fall-off-the-bone savory dish, while Chef Lorusso brings the heat with a spicy and sweet sauce.
In the second round, the contestants must create a dish inspired by their favorite sport. Chef Kramer opts for baseball, with a dish that features a wagyu beef hot dog with kimchi slaw and a tomato-cocoa ketchup. Chef Lorusso chooses basketball and creates a dish called "hoop dreams," featuring seared venison with a mustard-malt glaze, purple sweet potato puree, and Brussels sprouts.
As always, the competition is fierce, and both chefs impress the judges with their unique flavor profiles and attention to detail. But only one can move on to face off against Bobby Flay in the final round. Who will come out on top and earn the chance to dethrone the Iron Chef? Tune in to "Get in the Game" to find out.
