In the eighth episode of season three of Beat Bobby Flay, titled "Roll the Dice," two aspiring chefs face off in hopes of besting culinary master Bobby Flay. Each competitor brings their own unique style to the kitchen, but only one will emerge victorious.
The first competitor is New York native Sara Bradley, an executive chef and owner of the Freight House restaurant. Known for her Southern-style cooking and use of locally-sourced ingredients, Bradley is confident in her ability to take on Flay. However, she is up against a tough opponent in California native Bruce Kalman.
Kalman is the executive chef and owner of Union restaurant in Pasadena, California. Specializing in Italian cuisine, he is known for his inventive twists on classic dishes. Like Bradley, Kalman is no stranger to competition. He has previously been a contestant on Top Chef and has even defeated Flay in a previous episode of Beat Bobby Flay.
The competition begins with a throwdown between Bradley and Kalman. They each have 20 minutes to prepare a dish featuring a secret ingredient chosen by Flay. In this episode, the secret ingredient is game meat, which includes tough meats like venison, rabbit, and wild boar.
Both chefs put their own twist on the game meat, with Bradley opting for a spicy rabbit dish and Kalman going for a venison tartare. As always, Flay tastes each dish blind and ultimately chooses Kalman's dish as the winner of the throwdown.
With the first round out of the way, Bradley and Kalman must face off against each other. Flay presents them with a set of dice, which they must roll to determine the theme of their dish. The dice land on "breakfast for dinner," a challenge that proves to be tricky for both chefs.
Bradley decides to make a dish inspired by her Southern roots, opting for a savory dish of shrimp and grits with a poached egg. Kalman goes for something more unconventional, creating a breakfast pizza with a hash brown crust, bacon, eggs, and hollandaise sauce.
As the clock ticks down, both chefs struggle with their dishes. Bradley's grits prove to be too thick, and Kalman's pizza crust is not cooking properly. With only seconds left on the clock, both dishes are rushed to the judges' table.
The judges, the hilarious Emily Osment and the charming Geoffrey Zakarian, taste both dishes and ultimately choose a winner. As always, Flay is on hand to taste the winning dish and offer his own feedback.
The episode is filled with tension and excitement as Bradley and Kalman battle it out in the kitchen. Who will come out on top and earn the right to face Flay in the final round? Tune in to "Roll the Dice" to find out.
