In this episode of Carnival Eats, titled "Fries in Disguise," host Noah Cappe travels to the Louisiana Cajun Festival in Kaplan, Louisiana to taste some of the most unique and delicious carnival food around.
Noah starts off with a classic dish - fried alligator bites. He then moves on to one of the festival's most popular dishes - crawfish fries. These fries are piled high with crawfish étouffée, a spicy and flavorful Cajun stew made with tomatoes, onions, peppers, and of course, crawfish.
Next, Noah tries a dish that is truly in disguise - the "Who Dat Dog." This hot dog is wrapped in a fried potato spiral, making it look like a giant french fry. But inside, it's filled with all the classic hot dog toppings, including chili, cheese, onions, and mustard.
No carnival experience would be complete without something sweet, so Noah heads over to a stand serving up fried Oreos. But these aren't your typical fried Oreos - they're dipped in a bright blue batter before being fried to perfection.
Finally, Noah tries a dish that is both sweet and savory - the bacon-wrapped hot dog slider. This tiny sandwich is made with a miniature hot dog wrapped in bacon, topped with a sweet and spicy jam made with jalapeños and apricots.
Throughout the episode, Noah also takes the time to talk to the festival vendors and learn about the history of some of these classic Cajun dishes. From learning about the importance of crawfish in Cajun cuisine to discovering new and creative ways to make classic foods, "Fries in Disguise" is a fun and delicious look at the world of carnival eats.
