In DECA-DENCE season 1 episode 4, titled "Transmission," the story revolves around Kaburagi and Natsume who are trying to discover the secrets of the game and the Gadoll. The episode beings with Kaburagi determined to figure out the truth behind the mysterious transmission that he heard earlier. In the transmission, he heard someone speaking about a conspiracy and how the world they live in is not what it seems. What's mysterious to Kaburagi is that the broadcast was from a hundred years ago, which means that the world he's living in is at least a century old.
Kaburagi approaches his friend Sarkozy with his discovery, but Sarkozy ignores him and changes the topic. Sarkozy, however, promises to introduce Kaburagi to the game's creator, Hugin, since he wants to be upgraded. Later, Natsume and Kaburagi discuss the matter, and Natsume becomes interested in exploring the transmission. Natsume had always been curious about the world outside the walls of the giant fortress Deca-dence.
They learn that there is a chip in their necks that has a signal block, which stops people from distinguishing the truth from lies. Kaburagi and Natsume decide to locate the signal transmitter so they could receive truthful information. They set out on the mission in the middle of the night and find a tower that is unguarded where the signal transmitter is.
While Kaburagi checks the equipment, Natsume climbs the tower to the transmitter to activate it. Suddenly, the transmitter security system is triggered, and a group of robots, acting like police, start chasing Natsume. Kaburagi realizes that the security has been set up by the gamemakers, and he manages to help save Natsume, and they both fly back to Deca-dence.
In the fortress, Hugin, an AI program that runs the game, confronts Kaburagi and Natsume. Hugin promises to delete Natsume's memories of the transmission, but Kaburagi interrupts and confesses that he heard something. However, he reveals that he doesn't remember everything. Hugin then deletes Kaburagi's memory of the transmission while keeping Natsume's intact.
Later, Sarkozy, who was Kaburagi's friend, decides to leave via the tank, which takes players to a higher level of society. As Sarkozy leaves, he tells Kaburagi that he had sold out his friend to get an upgrade. He reveals that the transmission is genuine, and everything they knew about the world was a lie. He also mentions that he did what he had to do to escape that world.
