It is the beginning of a new day in Tokyo when a strange phenomenon suddenly occurs, disrupting the peaceful morning. Cars crash uncontrollably, buildings collapse, and people attack each other viciously. The cause of all this chaos is mysterious creatures known as "Septentriones" that appear out of thin air. Trying to cope with the situation and protect themselves, people try to flee, fight back, and call for help. Among them are three individuals who have just recently met and seem to possess some kind of special ability.
Hibiki Kuze, a high school student with a strong sense of justice, tries to save a little girl from the danger but ends up getting injured himself. Daichi Shijima, his friend and classmate, shows up to rescue him with a mysterious app called "Nicaea" and a smartphone that can summon a powerful being called "Demon." Meanwhile, a young woman named Io Nitta, who works for a high-tech company called JPs (Jung Programmers), comes across a strange message from her boss, Yamato Hotsuin, who warns her about the impending crisis and tells her to prepare for battle.
As the trio reunites and tries to figure out what to do next, they are suddenly approached by two strangers who introduce themselves as Alcor, a white-haired boy who claims to be an angel, and Ronaldo Kuriki, a charismatic man who leads a group called "The Triangulum." Alcor tells them that they are chosen ones who have the potential to become "Devil Summoners" and fight against the Septentriones to save Tokyo and the entire world. Ronaldo, on the other hand, offers them a different perspective, claiming that the end of the world is near and that only those who are willing to join him can survive.
As the situation becomes more dire and the Septentriones continue to wreak havoc, Hibiki, Daichi, and Io must make a decision that will not only determine their own fate but also the fate of thousands of innocent lives. Will they choose to become heroes and fight for the greater good, or will they succumb to their own fears and doubts and fall into despair? The "Melancholy Sunday" awaits them with hope and despair.
