Travis and Matt, the 6th episode of Intervention's first season, focuses on two young men who have fallen deep into addiction. Travis, 22, has been a crack addict since he was 17 years old. He has lost everything to his addiction, including his job, his relationship, and the trust of his family. He hasn't seen his mother in months and spends his days and nights smoking crack cocaine. Matt, 20, is addicted to heroin. He started using drugs when he was just 14 years old and has struggled with addiction ever since. He has already been to rehab twice, but each time he has relapsed shortly after leaving treatment. Matt's addiction has caused him to steal from his family and friends and has strained his relationships with everyone in his life.

As the episode begins, we see Travis and Matt in the depths of their respective addictions. Travis is shown smoking crack in his apartment while Matt is injecting heroin in a public restroom. We hear from Travis' mother, who is estranged from her son, and from Matt's family, who have been enabling his addiction for years. Matt's father is shown writing him a check for $200 to buy heroin and then crying in frustration and despair.

The families of Travis and Matt decide to stage an intervention in the hopes of getting their loved ones into treatment. They contact an interventionist named Jeff VanVonderen, who meets with them to plan the intervention. Jeff is a former addict himself and has been conducting interventions for over 30 years. He warns the families that interventions are very emotional and often difficult, but tells them that they must be strong and loving if they want to help their sons.

The families of Travis and Matt write letters to them, expressing their love and concern and asking them to go to treatment. Jeff gathers everyone together and leads the intervention, which is emotional and intense. Matt is initially resistant to the idea of going to rehab, but eventually agrees. Travis is more hesitant, but eventually relents and agrees to go to treatment as well.

The rest of the episode documents Travis and Matt's journey through rehab. They are both shown going through detox, which is very difficult and painful. They talk about their past traumas and struggles with addiction, and receive therapy and counseling to help them work through their issues. The rehab facility also includes a 12-step program, which helps the men come to terms with their addiction and find support from others who have gone through similar experiences.

As Travis and Matt progress through treatment, their families are shown visiting them and offering their love and support. The families also begin to attend support groups for families of addicts, which helps them better understand the disease of addiction and how they can best support their sons in recovery.

The episode ends with Travis and Matt both completing their treatment and returning home. They are shown in a follow-up meeting with Jeff, where they talk about their progress and their plans for the future. Both men are hopeful about their sobriety and grateful for the love and support of their families.

Overall, Travis and Matt is a powerful episode of Intervention that demonstrates the devastating effects of addiction and the importance of family support in recovery. The episode is a reminder that addiction is a disease that can affect anyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, and that recovery is possible with the right help and support.
