The episode 'The One to Protect' from season 1 of Kaze No Stigma starts with Kazuma and Ayano, two powerful elementalists, being hired to protect an important businessman's daughter, Yukari. She's a young girl who loves to sing and tries to make the best of the situation by singing pleasant songs to her protectors. Initially, the job seems like an easy one, but it quickly turns into a challenge when they start facing unexpected opponents.
Kazuma finds himself on guard when he gets a hint of the presence of an enemy in the vicinity. He can sense an angry and vengeful aura that suggests that the enemy wants to do serious damage, but he is unable to pinpoint the exact location. Meanwhile, Yukari accidentally comes across a group of classmates who are studying Nanase's magical formula to gain more power. Nanase, who's also known as the 'sword shaman,' has been betrayed by her assistants and seeks her revenge on her obnoxious students.
As events unfold, Kazuma and Ayano have to fight Nanase's group and simultaneously protect Yukari. They are also concerned about the intentions of the unknown enemy who is lurking around them. While doing their best to take care of Yukari, Kazuma and Ayano face some of their worst fears and end up fighting at their full capacity. Ayano's resentment towards Kazuma comes to the forefront when he decides to protect her by locking her in a room. However, her anger is short-lived, and they both come to understand the importance of each other's strengths in a situation like this.
Finally, they track down Nanase's headquarters and manage to defeat the traitors, which ultimately brings Nanase to her senses. The episode concludes with the trio returning home, but Kazuma is still concerned about the unidentified enemy that was following them throughout the episode.
The One to Protect is a great episode of Kaze No Stigma as it showcases the strength and weaknesses of each character while highlighting the importance of teamwork. It also reveals some of the betrayal and power struggles among the magical world, and how it affects innocent people. The plot is well-paced, and the action sequences are well-executed. The addition of Yukari's character introduces a sense of unpredictability, which is very refreshing. Overall, this episode is an excellent addition to the series, and it leaves the audience with a sense of anticipation for what happens next.
