While Tommy takes a day off from teaching to search for the elusive Zeltrax, Ethan refuses to practice for the Detonation Man competition that he won last year. Meanwhile, Tommy's substitute is captured by Elsa and turned into a volcano monster that attacks the city. The Rangers defeat the monster just in time for Ethan to defend his crown at the competition against Devin. Because Devin practiced and Ethan did not, Devin wins easily and Ethan learns that nothing in life is free.
