The children's television series Power Rangers RPM is a science fiction/action adventure series based on the Power Rangers television series. It is preceded by the Power Rangers Jungle Fury series and followed by the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers Samurai. As is true with all of the preceding Power Rangers installments, Power Rangers RPM features costumes and several other props from the Japanese superhero series Super Sentai. Power Rangers RPM is the seventeenth installment in the Power Rangers television series. Power Rangers RPM was produced by Disney and Renaissance-Atlantic Entertainment and filmed entirely in New Zealand. The pilot episode premiered in the U.S. on ABC Kids in 2009. The series ran for one season, from March 2009 to December 2009, over 32 episodes. Each episode lasted 22 minutes and fit into a half hour time slot. The series is set in the near future. A powerful Artificial Intelligence computer virus known as Venjix seeks to capture and destroy Earth. The virus has taken control of every computer on the planet, leaving humans unable to communicate while producing a robot droid army to work to obliterate nearly every metropolis on Earth. Humans flee their homes and move into domed cities that guard against the robots and pollution produced by Venjix. The only secure metropolis becomes the domed city of Corinth. Guarded by a force field and Venjix's militia, Corinth is virtually impenetrable. Here, the Power Rangers must utilize technologically advanced Zord Attack Vehicles to combat Venjix's forces. When the force field is dropped to permit the remaining humans to enter the city, Doctor K's RPM Power Rangers battle Venjix's army to save Corinth from annihilation. Power Rangers RPM was the final original Power Rangers series produced by Disney and Renaissance-Atlantic Entertainment before the franchise was purchased by Saban Capital Group. Power Rangers RPM is significantly darker in tone than many of the prior seasons of Power Rangers, and includes a number of death scenes.
