In the first episode of Red Data Girl, we meet a young girl named Izumiko Suzuhara. She lives at a remote shrine with her parents and has grown up sheltered from the outside world. Izumiko is plagued by strange and unexplainable occurrences with technology, causing her to be unable to use any electronic devices.
As her 15th birthday approaches, Izumiko's father decides it's time for her to transfer to a school in Tokyo. He wants her to learn how to interact with the modern world and hopes this will help her overcome her issues with technology.
At school, Izumiko meets her new roommate and classmate, Miyuki Sagara. Miyuki is the complete opposite of Izumiko - he's confident, charming, and popular with the girls. However, he has a secret past and harbors a deep resentment towards his father.
Izumiko's first day at school doesn't go smoothly. The other students seem to be able to sense her differentness, and she quickly becomes the target of bullying. One of her classmates, Mayura Souda, takes particular interest in Izumiko and demands to know why she's different. She reveals that her family has a history of spiritual powers and that Izumiko may be a vessel for a goddess.
Izumiko is skeptical and wants nothing to do with her classmates' talk of gods and spirits. However, her powers begin to manifest when she's attacked by a malevolent entity during a class trip, and she's saved by Miyuki.
The episode ends with Izumiko realizing that she's not as ordinary as she thought. She also discovers that Miyuki has been assigned to be her guardian, and he reveals that he has a supernatural power of his own. The stage is set for Izumiko's journey of self-discovery and her quest to understand the truth about her powers.
Overall, the first episode of Red Data Girl does an excellent job of introducing us to the main characters and setting up the central conflict. It's clear that Izumiko's unique abilities will be a driving force of the show and that Miyuki will play a crucial role in her journey. The episode also hints at the greater spiritual mythology of the show and leaves us eager to learn more.
