Ep 4. Fourth Death

After the terror that shook the people of Sotoba, Toshio makes a personal visit to the Ozaki mansion in a bid to convince his mother to evacuate the village as a measure of preventing further deaths. Meanwhile, Seishin receives a death notice from the Shiki named Megumi, which prompts him to pay a visit to her grave. He later meets up with Toshio, and they both discuss their suspicions about the recent occurrences.

In the meantime, Natsuno continues to suffer from repeated visits of his neighbor, Toru, who often talks about the 'new world' and constantly tries to convert Natsuno into a Shiki. It becomes apparent that Toru is working under the guidance of his master, Tatsumi, and the two along with Megumi start targeting the residents of the village.

As the Shiki's attacks become more rampant, Toshio convenes a meeting with the village group leaders to discuss measures that will curb the Shiki's depredations. However, the meeting quickly turns into a clash of views, with many of the leaders being skeptical about the existence of the Shiki.

Meanwhile, Megumi's transformation from a passive, carefree girl to a ruthless Shiki gradually plays out. She lures Toshio's wife, Kyokutsu, into her trap, and this marks the fourth death in Sotoba. Toshio's frustration is evident as he and Seishin discuss the possibility of increased Shiki activity.

In the aftermath of Kyokutsu's death, Natsuno becomes even more distrusting of his neighbors, especially Toru, who haunts him incessantly. Meanwhile, Tatsumi's plans for Sotoba become clearer with the targeting of each resident in distinct ways. While some, like Megumi, are recruited as Shiki, others are used to lure their families and spread death.

In another part of the village, Tohru, a farmer who had always lived on the margin, suddenly transforms overnight into one of the well-to-do people in the village. It turns out that he had been turned into a Shiki, who then starts preying on other farmers. This realization turns the village upside-down as people start to realize that the Shiki are real and pose a great danger to their safety.

As fear continues to mount, Seishin's friendship with Sunako grows deeper, with Sunako sharing more details about the past, prompting Seishin to uncover more about the Shiki. They both agree to keep Shiki deaths a secret from the villagers, as this would stir more panic and mayhem.

Towards the end of the episode, Natsuno's suspicions about Toru grow as the visits become more incessant and he gains more insights into Tatsumi's plans. Toshio also realizes the connection between each death and the people who died, prompting him and Seishin to take more drastic measures to contain the Shiki problem. The episode ends with a sense of impending doom, and the realization that things will only get worse before they get better.
