In the first episode of Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry, titled Prelude to Despair, we are introduced to our protagonist, Sara Werec. Sara is a high school student living in a world that has been divided by a massive barricade. The barricade separates humanity into two groups, the upper and lower classes. The upper class enjoys a life of luxury and privilege, while the lower class is left to struggle for survival.

Sara's life takes a drastic turn when her brother, a soldier in a special military unit, is killed in action. Grieving and desperate for answers, Sara decides to join the same military unit and learn the truth about her brother's death.

As Sara begins her journey as a soldier, she quickly learns that the military is not what she thought it would be. She is introduced to the Strain, a group of genetically engineered soldiers designed to be the ultimate fighting machines. Sara is in awe of the Strain's power, but she soon realizes that there is more to their existence than meets the eye.

In the midst of all this, Sara also discovers a mysterious girl named Lottie, who seems to have the ability to communicate with the Strain. Lottie's arrival sets off a chain of events that will change Sara's life forever.

Prelude to Despair sets up the world and characters of Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry beautifully, with stunning animation and a captivating storyline. Viewers are left on the edge of their seats as Sara's journey unfolds, and are sure to be hooked on the series from the very beginning.
