This is a futuristic anime series that prominently features mech units, which are tall robots that are piloted by humans for military purposes. The Strain: Strategic Armored Infantry series takes place around 6000 A.D., when humans have colonized much of the known universe. The political world has changed, having been roughly divided in to the two factions known as the Galactic Union and the Deague. These two factions are currently at war when the series begins.

There are a number of science fiction elements that have been incorporated in to this series, including space and time travel. The bulk of the series revolves around the pilots of the Strain mech units. These pilots have been specially trained and chosen from birth to pilot these weapons of war. Some of the main characters include Sara Werec and Ralph Werec.

Throughout the series there are a number of plot twists that change the course of the story. For instance, Ralph is originally trained by the Union but seemingly defects to the Deague. This causes quite a bit of tension, though it eventually becomes clear that Ralph doesn't have loyalties to the Deague. There are many other characters interwoven in to the series, including some with alien ancestry.
