The People's Court Season 20 Episode 7 You Sold Me a Fake Phone

  • September 13, 2016

In the 7th episode of season 20 of The People's Court, the case being heard revolves around the sale of a fraudulent phone. The plaintiff, a young woman named Sara, is suing the defendant, a man named Mike, for selling her a phone that he claimed was brand new but turned out to be a fake.

Sara begins by telling the court that she had been searching for a new phone for some time when she came across an ad posted by Mike on a popular online marketplace. The ad stated that Mike was selling a new iPhone 11 for a very reasonable price. Excited to find a good deal, Sara immediately contacted Mike and arranged to meet him to make the purchase.

When they met up, Mike handed over what appeared to be a brand new iPhone 11 in its original packaging. Sara inspected the phone and checked its features, and everything seemed to be in order. She paid Mike the agreed upon amount in cash and left feeling satisfied with her purchase.

However, it did not take long for Sara to realize that something was off about the phone. After taking it home and starting to use it, she noticed that it was not functioning as it should. The battery died very quickly, the camera produced grainy and blurry images, and some of the apps did not work properly.

Sara went to an authorized Apple store to have the phone examined, and it was quickly determined that the phone was not authentic. The store employee pointed out several key differences between the fake phone and a real iPhone, such as the inferior camera quality and the lack of certain features that are standard on an iPhone.

Feeling cheated and angry, Sara contacted Mike to demand a refund. However, Mike refused to acknowledge her calls and messages, so Sara took her case to The People's Court.

In his defense, Mike claims that he had no idea the phone was a fake when he sold it to Sara. He says that he had bought the phone from an acquaintance who claimed that it was a brand new iPhone 11, and he had no reason to doubt its authenticity at the time. However, he admits that he did not test the phone thoroughly before selling it to Sara.

The judge on the case, Judge Milian, listens carefully to both sides of the story before questioning Sara and Mike further. She asks Mike why he did not check the phone's authenticity before selling it, and he admits that he was in a rush to make a sale and did not consider the possibility that it might be a fake.

Judge Milian decides to order a technical examination of the phone to determine whether or not it is authentic. The examination reveals that the phone is indeed a fake and that it lacks several crucial features that are standard on an iPhone.

In light of this evidence, Judge Milian rules in favor of Sara and orders Mike to refund her the full amount of the purchase. She also warns Mike to be more careful when selling items in the future and to be sure to thoroughly check their authenticity.

The episode ends with Sara feeling relieved to finally have her money back, and with Mike realizing that he needs to be more responsible when selling items online.
