The world has been ravaged by a non-nuclear war, leaving the city of Olympus as the control capital. The human race has been largely repopulated with Bioroids, cloned humans made from the best possible DNA, who are trying to turn their war zone home back into something peaceful. Due to a serious threat to the society called the Human Liberation Front, which has ties to a terrorist team named the Argonauts, a special military task force was put into place to protect the people. The group is known as ES.W.A.T. and its made up of soldiers fighting inside robot armor (mecha) and cyborgs, half-man half-machine. Deunan Knute, a young girl who the war has ultimately left orphaned, is a rookie with ES.W.A.T along with her partner Brialeos. Deunan is spunky with a hero complex, often breaking rank to do things her own way, regardless of the consequences. Shes a specialist in weapons handling and hand-to-hand combat as her father taught her to fight from a young age after the death of her mother. Brialeos, Deunans longtime partner, met the younger soldier when they both trained with Knutes father in the LAPD before the third world war broke out. They later reconnected when both served in the same US Army platoon during the skirmishes. Brialeos was severely wounded in a blast that killed Deunans father. The only way for him to survive was for him to be turned into a type of cyborg called a Hecatonchires. Deunan shoulders the guilt of not being able to save him or her father. A reoccurring theme in the series is the search for paradise and peace on Earth. Deunan constantly questions her life and the turns it has taken. Appleseed XIII is a CGI animated cartoon based on the popular Japanese Sci-Fi manga of the same name created by Masamune Shirow. The series is thirteen episodes long and was produced by Jinnis Animation Studios and Production I. G and directed by Takayuki Hamana.
