Ep 9. The Home of Betrayal

Aired on November 30, 2014, Cross Ange: Rondo of Angels and Dragons Season 1 Episode 9 is titled The Home of Betrayal. The episode starts with Ange remembering her past, where she was forced to leave her parents and live in Arzenal. Embittered by her betrayal, Ange now considers Arzenal as her only home and team as her family. However, her thoughts are interrupted by Hilda and Salia, who inform her that they are going to investigate the strange energy detected on a nearby island. Ange agrees to join them, and the three head out.

While making their way to the island, the girls are attacked by giant dragon-like creatures. Angela decides to transform and fight back but finds herself outmatched. Just when Ange is about to be defeated, a group of knights arrives and kills the creatures. Upon closer inspection, Ange finds out that the knights are from her hometown- the Kingdom of Misurugi. This revelation shocks Ange, and she decides to follow them to the Kingdom.

Upon reaching the Kingdom, Ange is taken aback by the stark contrast between the luxury of royalty and the poverty of the commoners. She recalls that her family was exiled because her younger brother had the ability to use the Light of Mana- a power that is considered taboo. Ange convinces herself that the Knights will help her free her brother and decide to use their knowledge to infiltrate the palace.

After successfully disguising herself, Ange sneaks into the palace and encounters her former tutor, Riza. Riza reveals to Ange that her brother is, in fact, a Norma- a fact that Ange was blissfully unaware of. Norma are individuals who do not possess the ability to use Mana and are considered as social outcasts in the Kingdom. To cover up their existence, the Kingdom exiles all Norma to a remote island where they are forced to work in mines.

Shocked and dismayed, Ange decides to confront her brother and free all Norma from the island. Her plans, however, start to fall apart when she is captured by the Count who reveals that he had a hand in Ange's exile. Ange's brother, Jurai, is brought to the room; he is revealed to be brainwashed and now believes that Ange is a demon.

The episode ends with Ange, Jurai, and Salia fighting against the Count and his soldiers. Ange is determined to free Jurai and all Norma from the Kingdom's oppression.

The Home of Betrayal is a highly intense and action-packed episode that sheds light on Ange's past and reveals vital information about the Kingdom of Misurugi. The episode is full of tension, suspense, and drama and highlights the harsh treatment of Norma and the corrupt regime of Misurugi's Kingdom. It is a must-watch for fans of the show and an excellent addition to an already engaging storyline.
