In this episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri takes viewers on a tour of restaurants that have modernized classic dishes with new twists. From reinvented hot dogs to updated meatballs, these eateries are putting their own spin on old standards.
First up is a diner in California that's serving up classic American comfort food with a Latino flair. Guy tries a chorizo meatloaf sandwich, made with ground beef and chorizo sausage and topped with chipotle aioli. Next, he tries a dish called "The Elvis" - a burger with peanut butter, bacon, and banana - which is unexpectedly delicious.
Then, Guy heads to an Italian restaurant in Rhode Island that's been around for over a century. The chef has taken traditional dishes like meatballs and chicken Parmesan and given them a modern twist. Guy tries a meatball sub with roasted red pepper aioli and a chicken Parmesan pizza that's topped with crispy prosciutto.
Next, it's off to a hot dog joint in Virginia that's serving up creative takes on the classic dog. Guy tries a "hog dog" made with a hot dog wrapped in bacon and topped with pulled pork and coleslaw. He also samples a "PB&J dog" that's topped with peanut butter, bacon jam, and jalapeƱos.
Finally, Guy visits a seafood restaurant in Minnesota that's putting a modern spin on classic fish dishes. He tries a fish and chips dish made with walleye, a freshwater fish that's popular in the Midwest. The restaurant also serves a "walleye Reuben" sandwich that's made with rye bread, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing, and sauerkraut.
Throughout the episode, Guy also shares some of his own tips and techniques for modernizing classic dishes. He encourages viewers to experiment with ingredients and to not be afraid to try something new.
Overall, Old Standards, New Styles is a fun and delicious episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives that showcases some of the best restaurants in America that are putting their own spin on classic dishes.
