In the world of Gonna Be the Twin-Tail!!, twin-tails (pigtails) are considered the ultimate hairstyle and source of power. So much so that a secret society of twin-tail enthusiasts is formed to protect them from a mysterious race of aliens called the Ultimaguil.
The series follows high school student Sōji Mitsuka, who is a twin-tail enthusiast himself and has been since he was a child. Sōji dreams of meeting a girl with twin-tails as glorious as his own. One day, he encounters a mysterious girl named Thouars who has come from another world to seek out a warrior with the power of twin-tails.
Sōji is shocked when Thouars transforms him into a twin-tail warrior to fight the Ultimaguil. Despite being hesitant at first, Sōji quickly embraces his new powers and joins Thouars on her quest to save the world.
In the first episode titled "Earth Is a Twin-Tail World," we see Sōji as a young boy reading a book about twin-tails and proclaiming his love for the hairstyle. Fast-forward to present day, and Sōji is now a high school student attending an all-boys school. He's disappointed that there are no girls with twin-tails at his school, but that doesn't stop him from wearing his own twin-tails with pride.
We then see Sōji encounter a girl named Aika Tsube who's being bullied by some of his classmates. Aika has twin-tails that Sōji is in awe of, but he's disappointed to see that she doesn't seem to value them as much as he does. After Aika is saved by a mysterious girl named Thouars, Sōji is caught in an explosion that transforms him into a twin-tail warrior.
Thouars reveals to Sōji that she's from another world and that Earth is in danger from the Ultimaguil, who seek to steal the power of twin-tails. Twin-tail warriors are the only ones who can stop them, and Thouars has been sent to Earth to find them. She's shocked to see that the people of Earth don't value twin-tails as much as they should, but she finds hope in Sōji's passion for the hairstyle.
After some initial reluctance, Sōji agrees to help Thouars on her quest to protect the twin-tails of Earth. They're soon attacked by the Ultimaguil, and Sōji transforms into a twin-tail warrior once again to battle them. With the power of twin-tails, Sōji is able to defeat the Ultimaguil and save the day.
The first episode of Gonna Be the Twin-Tail!! sets up the premise of the series in a fun and lighthearted way. The concept of twin-tails being a source of power is unique and silly, but it works in the context of the show. The animation is bright and colorful, and the character design is cute and appealing. Sōji is a likable protagonist with a lot of enthusiasm for twin-tails, and Thouars serves as a more serious and mysterious figure. The first episode also includes a lot of comedic moments, particularly in the interactions between Sōji and Thouars. Overall, the first episode of Gonna Be the Twin-Tail!! is a promising start to a series that offers a unique and entertaining take on the magical girl genre.
