Sell This House! Season 10 episode 6, titled "Personal Hang Ups," is a show that focuses on transforming a house with decor and design changes to sell the property fast. This episode follows homeowners with a house that has been on the market for a while, and they are struggling to sell it. The homeowners are Debbie and Tim, and they have been married for 13 years, but they have plenty of differences. Their eclectic decor choices are making it difficult for buyers to envision themselves in the house. Meanwhile, a nearby freeway construction project could hinder the sale of the home, making the stakes even higher.

The episode opens with the show host, Tanya Memme, who meets with the homeowners to assess the property. Tanya tours the house and takes note of the many personal items that seem to crowd the space. Tanya highlights that many potential buyers may not be able to see past the personal items, and it could impact the sale of the home. Tanya explains that it is important to create a neutral space that buyers can imagine themselves living in, and the current design of the house isn't helping to sell the property.

The episode follows a familiar format where our hosts Tanya Memme and home improvement expert Roger Hazard guides the homeowners through making changes to their home. Tanya and Roger start by decluttering and depersonalizing the space, working together to pack up personal items and excess decor. Tanya focuses on packing up the room that will later become a den. This way, the room looks much bigger when it's empty.

Next, Roger focuses on renovations and updates that could help sell the house. He focuses on the bathroom, where he replaces the outdated faucet, showerhead, and light fixtures. He also removes the old medicine cabinet and replaces it with a new one. Finally, Roger replaces the old towel bar, and voila! The bathroom is transformed, looking like new, and appealing to the buyers.

Next, Roger tackles the kitchen, which had old worn down counters and outdated fixtures. Roger replaces the old countertops with new, modern granite, which immediately updates the kitchen. The new sink and faucet, along with new oven and hood, give the kitchen a much cleaner and modern appearance. Finally, Roger has the old cabinetry painted white and adds new hardware, which makes the kitchen appear spacious and new.

Back to Tanya, she is working with the interior designer, Dani, to stage the house and prepare it for the market. The living room has an odd layout and a lot of personal touches, which make it difficult for buyers to see themselves living there. Tanya encourages Debbie and Tim to remove some of the furniture, and Dani helps them to ensure the remaining pieces are arranged in a way that makes the room appear spacious and bright. Dani and Tanya also swap out some personal home decor and replace it with something more subtle, cohesive, and gives a relaxing vibe.

At the end of the episode, we see that the home's final look is an updated, modern interior with a beautiful, neutral palette. The personal items are gone, and the house feels like a blank canvas prospective buyers can easily envision themselves in. The kitchen and bathroom have undergone an impressive transformation, and the overall staging of the house is impressive, with improvements throughout.

The homeowners couldn't believe the transformation that their house underwent, and they agreed that it felt like a whole new space. They also felt the different spaces had become more unified. Our hosts and design experts Tanya and Roger have created a space with universal appeal that buyers could easily imagine themselves living in, hopefully resulting in a successful sale.

Overall, "Personal Hang Ups" is a typical episode of "Sell This House!" with a familiar formula: homeowners with a personal decor style who needed help making their house more appealing to buyers. The episode is instructional and shows how making simple changes can go a long way in selling a home. Viewers experience the before and after transformations of the home, and we see the difference that professional staging, decluttering, and design can create. This episode serves as a fantastic educational guide for future individuals selling their homes and are looking for remodeling ideas.
