Hachiken Howls is the eighth episode of the second season of the Japanese anime series Silver Spoon. The plot resolves around the central character Yuugo Hachiken, who is a second-year high schooler at Ooezo Agricultural High School.

Hachiken is a city boy who enrolled in the school after failing to get into a prestigious high school in Tokyo. In search of his true calling and redemption from his suburban past, he finds himself in a new world of hard work, farming, and rural living.

As the episode begins, Hachiken is depressed because he hasn't heard from Mikage, his love interest. She has left the school to take care of her ailing grandmother, and Hachiken is worried about her health. However, his friends tell him that she is doing well and that he shouldn't worry about her. They also try to cheer him up, telling him that he should focus on his studies and farming.

Later, Hachiken decides to work on his pig farming project after getting inspiration from a documentary on the discovery channel. He hopes that by applying modern scientific methods, he can help his pigs become healthier and more profitable.

However, Hachiken's plans go awry when he finds out that one of his pigs has fallen ill. Despite his best efforts, he can't seem to diagnose the problem. His frustration grows when his fellow students and even his teacher tell him that he is overworking himself and that he needs to take a break. Hachiken refuses to listen and becomes more determined to solve the problem.

As the episode progresses, Hachiken's stress levels increase, and he starts to have sleepless nights. In an attempt to find a solution to his struggling pig, he howls like a wolf in the middle of the night, which frightens his classmates and earns him a nickname "The Howler."

Despite his constant search for a cure, Hachiken ends up exhausting himself physically and mentally. However, his breakthrough comes when he finally reaches out to his teacher and asks for help.

Together, they discover that the pig's problem was caused by a lack of proper nutrition. They develop a new feeding regimen, and the pig makes a full recovery.

Hachiken's hard work and dedication are acknowledged by his teacher and classmates, and he receives praise for his efforts.

In conclusion, Hachiken Howls is a compelling episode that portrays the mental and physical challenges faced by farmers and slow-living enthusiasts. It highlights the importance of reaching out for help and how perseverance and determination can lead to success.
