Joe and Helen are both feeling lonely and decide to try their luck in the dating world. Joe, being the optimistic guy that he is, thinks that he may have found the perfect match in a woman he met at the hardware store. Meanwhile, Helen is excited to have a date with a man she met through a video dating service.
Things don't go as planned for either of them, though. Joe's date turns out to be more interested in getting free repairs for her house than in Joe himself. Helen's date, while charming over the phone, turns out to be a complete dud. As they regroup at the airport, Joe and Helen commiserate about their bad luck.
But their friends at the airport aren't having much better luck in the romance department. Brian has finally given up on his long-distance love, Alex, and is trying to move on. He starts by asking out a woman he meets at a hotel bar, but things quickly go south when he realizes she's only interested in his pilot uniform.
Fay, on the other hand, is trying to rekindle a romance with a man she met in a support group for people who have lost their hair. They have dinner plans, but Fay gets cold feet when she realizes that it's been 20 years since she's been on a date.
In the end, everyone learns a valuable lesson about looking for love in all the wrong places. Joe decides that he's better off being alone until he finds someone who truly appreciates him for who he is. Helen realizes that while it may be fun to go out on dates, she's perfectly content with being single for now. Brian realizes that he's not ready to move on from Alex just yet. And Fay decides that she's ready to put herself out there and start dating again.
The episode ends with everyone enjoying a drink at the airport bar, happy to have each other as friends. While they may not have found love in the traditional sense, they know that they have something even more important - each other.
