In the season 18 episode 5 of Barefoot Contessa titled Food Adventures, Ina Garten brings her culinary expertise to explore different foods and flavors. She teams up with her friend, chef and author, Melissa Clark to embark on an adventure in search of new, innovative recipes. Their exploration takes them to some of New York City's most iconic food destinations, including home to some of the best pizza and bagels in the world.

In the first half of the episode, Ina and Melissa visit the famous pizza place Roberta's in Brooklyn. They meet the restaurant's co-owner and head chef Carlo Mirarchi, and he teaches them how to make their famous pizza dough. The pizza chef explains each step of the dough-making process, from mixing the flour to rolling it out and topping with fresh tomato sauce, fresh basil, and gooey mozzarella cheese. After trying their hand at making pizzas, they savor their creations with a good selection of wine.

Next, the duo visits Russ & Daughters, a fourth-generation family-run store that sells some of the best bagels and smoked fish in the city. Joel Russ, who established the store in 1914, began as a herring peddler and then opened a pushcart on Hester Street. Ina and Melissa try out some of the best smoked salmon available, and while Ina not a huge smoked salmon fan, she finds this one divine. They seek expert guidance to learn how to make the perfect bagels and then head over to kitchen facility to try to replicate Russ & Daughters' recipe under the Supervision of the head baker. Once they had proof, boiled them in honey infused water, and bake them. The result is some of the most tempting bagels they have. The ones they make are even better than the ones from the store.

For the final leg of their culinary adventure, Ina and Melissa visit an up-and-coming Brooklyn hot spot; Olmsted Restaurant that focusses on the use of local ingredients and fantastic flavors. The restaurant's head chef and co-owner Greg Barnes shows Ina and Melissa around the garden, where they use homegrown fruits and vegetables in their kitchens all year long. Chef Greg prepares his signature dish that highlights the restaurant's farm-to-table philosophy by using vegetables picked just moments before the meal. Ina and Melissa get to pick some of their ingredients and assist the chef in preparing the dish – Yum!!!.

Throughout the episode, Ina and Melissa share their thoughts and expertise on the different tastes and flavors they come across. They recall fond memories of different food experiences and find inspiration in trying out the new places they discover.
