In the fourth episode of Liberty’s Kids, titled Liberty Or Death, the story continues with James, Sarah, and Henri, who are struggling to sell their newspaper and keep it afloat. They soon find themselves in the midst of a historical moment, as Patrick Henry makes his famous speech at the Virginia Convention. Henry urges the colonists to take arms against the British and fight for independence. Despite the dangers of speaking out against the king, Henry delivers his famous words: “Give me liberty, or give me death!”

The trio of young journalists are not only reporting on the events but they’re also witnessing history in the making. They befriend Moses, a runaway slave, who is hiding from his master and looking for freedom. Moses helps the reporters in selling their papers while also teaching them about the harsh realities of slavery. James, Sarah and Henri are inspired and moved by Henry’s impassioned speech and decide to dedicate their newspaper to the cause of American independence.

Meanwhile, in the Continental Congress, there is much debate about the possible outcome of the conflict with Britain, and some representatives are still reluctant to declare independence. Sarah convinces James to sneak into the congress and report on the debates. While sneaking around, James overhears some of the representatives’ thoughts about independence, and he learns that not all of them are in favor.

Back at the printing shop, Sarah and Henri convince Moses to speak out about his experience as a slave in the hopes of educating others and promoting the cause of freedom. Moses is hesitant at first because of the possible consequences of speaking out, but he eventually agrees. The trio is successful in spreading the word, and Moses’ story inspires many to take action against slavery.

The episode ends with Patrick Henry’s famous speech being heard not just throughout Virginia but across the colonies, building momentum for the cause of American independence. It’s clear that James, Sarah, and Henri are becoming more committed to the cause and are discovering the power that journalism can have in shaping public opinion.
