In the Box is the nineteenth episode of season one of Rin-ne. The anime series is a rom-com fantasy that follows the story of Sakura Mamiya, a high school student who can see ghosts and spirits. She meets Rinne Rokudo, a shinigami or a god of death, who helps ghosts pass on to the afterlife. The series is based on a manga by Rumiko Takahashi.

In the Box opens with Sakura and Rinne investigating an incident at a convenience store. The store's employee claims that a mysterious box arrived at the store, and it seems to have a curse on it. Rinne confirms that the box is cursed and contains a powerful spirit that must be put to rest. Sakura and Rinne then get a call from the Shinigami Bureau, where they are asked to investigate another mysterious phenomenon.

The Shinigami Bureau, where all the shinigami or god of death work, is in chaos. The mysterious boxes that Rinne had warned about have arrived at the bureau and are causing all sorts of problems. The boxes seem to affect anyone who touches them, causing them to act strange. One box, in particular, has the spirit of a woman who died many years ago. The spirit takes control of anyone who touches the box, causing them to act like the woman.

The spirit in the box turns out to be a powerful one, and Rinne realizes that the only way to put it to rest is to find out what happened to the woman who owned the box. By tracking down her old possessions and talking to her family, Rinne and Sakura piece together the woman's story. They discover that she was a lonely woman, living a life of neglect and abuse. When she died, she was buried in an unmarked grave, alone and forgotten.

Rinna realizes that the woman's lonely spirit has caused all these problems. The spirit took control of the boxes to find someone who would listen to her story. In the process, she caused chaos at the Shinigami Bureau. Rinne and Sakura return the woman's box to her family, and they give her a proper funeral. With the spirit laid to rest, the curse is lifted.

In the Box is a heartwarming and touching episode that explores the themes of loneliness and abandonment. Rinne and Sakura's investigation leads them to uncover the woman's sad story. The episode ends on a hopeful note, with the ghost of the woman finally finding peace.
