Sakura Mamiya, a high school student who can see ghosts, has been helping her neighbor, Rinne Rokudo, a boy who has the ability to send spirits to the afterlife. In Rin-ne season 1 episode 7, titled "Curse of the Rabbit Hutch," Sakura and Rinne investigate a haunted rabbit hutch that has been causing trouble for students at their school.
The episode starts with Sakura and her friend Rokumon, a black cat who can transform into a winged creature, discussing why their classmate is always so sleepy in class. They soon realize that the girl has been staying up late to take care of the rabbits in the school's hutch. However, the rabbits have been acting strange lately, and students who touch them end up with bad luck.
Sakura and Rokumon investigate the rabbit hutch and find a ghost rabbit named O-Hina who has been causing the trouble. O-Hina had been abandoned by her owner and had taken refuge in the hutch. However, because of her sadness and resentment towards humans, she had been causing misfortune to those who interacted with the rabbits.
Sakura and Rinne must find a way to send O-Hina to the afterlife so that she can find peace. However, they must also deal with a group of delinquent students who have taken over the school's hutch and refuse to let anyone near it. After a hilarious confrontation, Sakura and Rinne are able to exorcise O-Hina and send her to the afterlife.
The episode also showcases the budding romance between Sakura and Rinne.
