With the help of his classmate and love interest Sakura Mamiya and his demon familiar Rokumon, Rinne faces a non-stop barrage of undead mischief, all while trying to make ends meet by charging the spirits for his services.
The episode kicks off with Rinne receiving a job request from Oboro, a black cat who also happens to be a spirit. Oboro's owner has recently passed away, and the cat is now desperate to find a new home. Rinne agrees to help, but quickly becomes suspicious when Oboro reveals that her former owner was a wealthy man with a large inheritance. Rinne suspects that Oboro may be trying to swindle him, and sets out to uncover the truth.
Meanwhile, Sakura becomes worried when she notices Rinne's declining health. She discovers that Rinne has contracted a cold after spending too much time in the rain, and urges him to take a break and rest. But Rinne is determined to keep working, and continues on with Oboro's case despite his illness.
As the investigation progresses, Rinne and Sakura encounter a new character – a spirit medium named Ageha who claims to know the truth about Oboro's owner. Rinne suspects that Ageha may be working with Oboro to scam him out of his fee, and begins to doubt whether he can trust her.
Ultimately, the truth behind Oboro's owner is revealed, and Rinne is left to decide whether or not to take on the job. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, with Rinne and Sakura facing a new challenge that shakes the foundations of their partnership.
