"The Killer Speaks" is the documentary program that goes into prisons to interview killers on the chilling insights into their crimes. This technique of interviewing killers in prison is an in depth method of performing an autopsy that is psychological in nature. The program takes a look at each step of the thought process before an act of murder is committed. Each individual offender that speaks in an interviews gives law enforcement information that can be used later in criminal profiles. Whether there is one homicide or a series of them, taking information from killers is one way out of the many investigative techniques of law enforcement agencies. In cases when there are serial killers are at large, an interview from a convicted serial killer is crucial to understanding the mental motivation behind the murders that have occurred. The FBI often helps via consultation in active investigations, before and after the interviews to make a psychological profile of the killers. In cases where domestic violence degenerates into murder, the same techniques of using interviews apply to make a profile the same as with serial killers and other murderers that have been convicted. It is a look into the dark and twisted minds, that turns into a chilling reality when murders are discovered afterward. The first season of this documentary series is to talk to inmates that have murdered once or many times before being arrested. Some theories of how a person becomes a killer are often a question that can't be answered easily. In a few cases where there is severe abuse in a household, that can often lead to murder later on by the former victim of past abuse. Whatever the cause, an interview with a convicted murderer can shed light on an active murder investigation to solve a case.
