Lucy and the Submarine is the second episode of season one of The Lucy Show, a beloved sitcom that starred the incomparable Lucille Ball. In this episode, Lucy Carmichael tries to get her hands on a submarine in order to win a contest and pay for her son's tuition.

The episode begins with Lucy receiving a phone call from a radio program. The program, called "The Queen for a Day," is offering a prize of $1000 dollars to the person who can come up with the most unusual item they can donate to their charity drive. Lucy, who needs the money to pay for her son's tuition, becomes determined to come up with a winning idea.

While browsing through a military surplus store, Lucy comes across a model submarine and gets the idea to donate a real submarine to the charity. She enlists the help of her friend and coworker at the bank, Vivian Bagley, to help her find a submarine.

The two women head to a nearby naval base in hopes of finding a submarine for their cause. While there, they run into a naval officer who mistakes Lucy for a famous actress scheduled to christen a submarine the next day. Lucy, not wanting to miss an opportunity, decides to go along with the mistake and christens the submarine herself.

Later that night, Lucy and Vivian sneak onto the submarine in order to take it to the charity drive. However, they accidentally trigger the sub's launch controls and find themselves headed out to sea. As they try to find a way to stop the submarine, they run into some unexpected passengers—three sailors who were left behind when the sub shipped out. The sailors, played by veteran character actors Joe Flynn, Jim Backus, and Bob Hastings, add to the hilarity as they help Lucy and Vivian try to figure out how to stop the submarine.

As they try to find a way to stop the sub, Lucy and the sailors come up with a plan to use a torpedo to create a signal that will bring the Navy to their rescue. Along the way, they encounter various mishaps and obstacles, including a malfunctioning periscope and difficulty in firing the torpedo.

In true Lucy fashion, the episode is full of physical comedy and hilarious situations as Lucy tries to make her way back to shore. Despite her best efforts, though, things only seem to go from bad to worse, culminating in a finale that is sure to leave audiences laughing and shaking their heads in disbelief.

Overall, Lucy and the Submarine is a classic example of the kind of madcap humor that made The Lucy Show such a beloved sitcom. Lucille Ball shines as the bumbling but lovable Lucy Carmichael, and the supporting cast is equally hilarious in their roles. The episode is a must-watch for fans of classic comedy and anyone looking for a good laugh.
