In the nineteenth season of the popular travel and food show, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, the host takes viewers on a culinary journey across different countries exploring some of the most bizarre and unusual foods each country has to offer. Episode five of season nineteen titled "Napoleon's March Through Poland" is no exception, as Andrew explores the unique cuisine of Poland, a country with a rich and sometimes tumultuous history that has greatly influenced its gastronomy.

The episode starts with Andrew in Gdańsk, a northern city in Poland known for its rich history and culture, where he tries kavkaz, a pickled herring, considered to be one of the most popular and traditional dishes of the city. He then heads to the market to try roasted mutton and other varieties of food unique to the area.

Traveling south to Masuria, Andrew discovers a one-of-a-kind dish called kiszka. Made from a pig's blood, barley, and buckwheat, the dish is boiled in a bronze pot, which is then suspended in a bonfire and smoked to perfection. And the name kiszka? Well, as Andrew finds out, it has an interesting story attached to it.

In the same area, Andrew tries unusual fish dishes, including zander, a freshwater fish that is often used in traditional Polish meals. Andrew heads to the lakes to catch some for dinner, paired perfectly with a side of grilled vegetables.

Moving on from Masuria, Andrew heads to the capital city of Warsaw, where he is introduced to some dishes representing a key chapter of the country's history: Napoleon's march through Poland. Andrew tastes krokiet, a potato dumpling in which cooked potato mixed with flour is rolled into balls and then flattened, before being stuffed with a mixture of meat and onions and breaded. Andrew's love for this dish is visible in his tone as he describes the texture and flavor of this unique dish.

Andrew then visits a local delicatessen to taste the famous and traditional Polish stuffed cabbage rolls known as gołąbki. These rolls contain a mix of minced meat, onions, and rice, wrapped in cabbage leaves and baked slowly for several hours, resulting in a tender and flavorful dish.

Finally, the episode ends with Andrew tasting some traditional Polish desserts and taking part in street festivities, where he experiences the warmth and hospitality of the local people.
