She is a fan of survivalist games and enjoys participating in them under the name "Matsuoka."

One day, Hotaru is challenged by the host of the survivalist game, Masamune Matsuoka, to join his team and compete in an upcoming tournament. Hotaru initially declines the offer, but when she is tricked into a fight by a group of delinquents, she decides to take up Masamune's offer to prove her skills.

Hotaru soon discovers that Masamune's team is actually a group of airsoft players who compete in team battles using realistic-looking guns. Hotaru is hesitant at first, but she decides to give it a try and joins Masamune's team, "Toy Gun Gun." She quickly learns that airsoft battles are just as intense and challenging as survivalist games.
