Remington Steele is a TV detective series about a woman named Laura Holt who is a licensed private detective. Unfortunately, because she is a woman she cannot get potential clients to take her seriously when she opens a detective agency under her own name. In order to get clients, she creates new agency with a male boss she calls Remington Steele. Laura now successfully solves the mysteries of her numerous clients as she gives all the credit to her fictitious employer. She always has reasons why clients cannot meet the boss whenever such as a request is made. Because no is has ever met Steele, a con man and thief is able to assume his identity. Unable to expose him as a fraud without revealing her own deception, Laura is forced to let him take credit for her work.

As their working relationship continues, they deal with a detective named Murphy Michaels who knows Remington Steele is a fraud, Steele's ex-girlfriend, Felicia, and, Anna, another woman from his past. We learned various things about both characters' pasts as we meet Steele's con man mentor and Laura's mother.

In addition to a working relationship, they become attracted to each other. Laura hesitates to act on the feelings she has for this charming, handsome man with a mysterious past. But the man whose real name she is unable to discover continues to inspire feelings that she tries to fight.

The role of Remington Steele is played by Pierce Brosnan of James Bond fame. Laura Holt is played Stephanie Zimbalist and their office assistant, Mildred Krebs, is played by Doris Roberts. Murphy Michaels is played by James Read. In addition to the principals, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. plays Daniel Chalmers, a con man that helped Steele learn that trade, Michael Constantine as a businessman and Beverly Garland who played Laura's mother Abigail Holt. They appear in reoccurring roles. The series was created by Michael Gleason and Robert Butler.
