The titular character of the show, Mr. Robinson, is a musician who plays piano and sings in funk band Nasty Delicious in posh lounges and clubs. While he looks for opportunities to earn extra money, he is made aware of a substitute music teacher position at Studs Terkel High School, the local high school which he attended, available to be filled immediately. One of the teachers at the high school is Victoria Wavers, another former attendee as well as Robinson's high school girlfriend. Although he's always been suave with the ladies, Victoria never left his mind - or his heart. She was the proverbial "one that got away." His desire to win her affections, in conjunction with the extra income stream, influences his decision to pursue the gig. Robinson is surrounded by a circle of interesting teachers and staff at Studs Terkel High School. Principal Eileen Taylor is a rock music guru, Ashleigh Fellows is the irresistibly drop-dead gorgeous math teacher, and P.E. coach Jimmy Hooper loves the 80's and early 90's era and insists everyone call him by his self-appointed nickname, "Magnum." While Robinson does not intend to make friends at the school and is originally only takes the job in order to pursue Victoria, he ends forging relationships with the school faculty and his music students. His charisma and winsome personality allows him to influence his students to comply with his various plans and schemes to woo Victoria. Robinson is eventually given a decision to choose between his position at the high school or to accept a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity when he is requested by a world-famous band to accompany on a year-long tour. He has to make a difficult decision to either pursue his dream and leave his family, co-workers, and students behind or stay and possibly regret missing out on the tour. His decision will influence the course of the show and the rest of his life.
