Basement Level channel is a programming station dedicated to independent music videos. Much like MTV, CMT, and other music channels Basement Level shows the song and the band name that is playing on the channel at the time. The important aspect of Basement Level is the fact that it plays lesser known bands and genres of music. Many people are not exposed to these types of genres of music, as many of the main music channels and radio stations only play the most popular types of music. In this way, Basement Level is a pioneer of sorts in the industry as it is essentially a music festival type channel.
Basement Level started several years ago and has had great ratings ever since. One of the many problems that Basement Level faces is the fact that it is not one of the music channel giants, and must cannibalize viewers from the other stations. There are only a select number of people that still watch music on TV, and with all of the advances in smart phone technology it makes sense. However, Basement Level has seen still very good growth in viewer ratings overall because of the fact that Basement Level provides a type of music that the normal market channels do not.
Overall, Basement Level has done a very good job of introducing a new type of media channel, one that was not provided before. Basement Level provides music television for less well known bands and genres of music, something vastly different from the mainstream TV channels.
